The Santos Foundation is hiring an Agriculture and Livestock Specialist for a 22-month fixed-term role based in Pimaga, Southern Highlands Province. The successful applicant will deliver practical, field-based training under the Kutubu Agriculture and Livelihoods (KAL) Project in partnership with the Australia–Papua New Guinea Economic Partnership (APEP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver approximately 3 hands-on group training sessions monthly on food crops, soils, composting, and basic agronomy, using schools, Pimaga VET, and community demonstration sites.
  • Provide ongoing extension support through regular household and farmer-group field visits.
  • Support household life-skills training, including nutrition, dietary diversity, safe food preparation, WASH/hygiene, and basic financial literacy.
  • Deliver basic pig and poultry husbandry training, subject to start-up consultations (livestock stream).
  • Maintain field records and contribute to Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting, and Learning (MERLA) activities.
  • Promote safeguarding and inclusive participation (Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion – GEDSI) across all activities.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Agronomy, or related fields, or a relevant trade/vocational qualification with strong field experience.
  • 3 to 5+ years’ practical experience in extension, farmer training, or on-farm technical support, preferably in remote or developing country contexts.
  • Ability to deliver participatory, community-based training for diverse groups including women, youth, and people with low literacy.
  • Valid Papua New Guinea driver’s licence.
