Newmont seeks a skilled Technician Dogging/Rigging to perform rigging and dogging tasks supporting mobile cranes and fixed plant maintenance at the Lihir Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea.
The Technician Dogging/Rigging at Newmont’s Lihir Operation is vital in performing dogging and rigging activities that support the maintenance of mobile cranes and fixed plant equipment across the processing facility. This role involves working with crushing, grinding, flotation, and conveyor systems while adhering strictly to site safety standards and lift plans.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following key duties and contribute effectively to the overall objectives of the role and organisation.
- Execute rigging and dogman tasks on fixed/mobile plant equipment, structures, and heavy machinery.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on plant equipment, rigging gear, and tools, ensuring the rigging shed is kept safe and organized.
- Coordinate and communicate with supervisors, crane operators, and maintenance teams to report any task delays or constraints.
- Comply with the PNG Mine Safety Act, Newmont standards, and environmental and operational guidelines.
- Mentor colleagues by providing on-the-job guidance and sharing knowledge.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following education, experience, technical competencies, and professional attributes required to successfully perform this role.
- Minimum Grade 10 education or equivalent.
- Possession of PNG National Driver’s License.
- Intermediate to advanced Dogging and/or Rigging certification or competency.
- 3–5 years of experience in heavy industries such as mining, construction, oil & gas, or industrial maintenance.
- Ability to interpret lift plans and work safely around mobile cranes and processing plant infrastructure.
