St Barbara Limited seeks a skilled Pastry Chef for its Papua New Guinea operations. This full-time role focuses on producing quality baked goods in a fast-paced environment, supporting morale, and leading a diverse team. Locations include many PNG provinces and remote islands.

St Barbara Limited is hiring a dedicated Pastry Chef to join their team at the Simberi Operations in Papua New Guinea. This full-time permanent position requires preparing high-volume baked goods such as breads, cakes, pastries, and desserts for hundreds of workers, under the supervision of the Head Chef. Candidates must thrive in a fast-paced environment, work long and early shifts, and help maintain team morale through quality food production.

The role operates under St Barbara’s Values, Code of Conduct, and all compliance obligations. The location is flexible within Papua New Guinea, including Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo, Wewak, or the Tabar group of Islands. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following key duties and contribute effectively to the overall objectives of the role and organisation.

  • Prepare high-volume, quality baked goods, including breads, cakes, pastries, and buffet desserts
  • Maintain morale among workers
  • Work long, fast-paced, and often early-morning shifts
  • Identify and review specific compliance requirements of the role

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following education, experience, technical competencies, and professional attributes required to successfully perform this role.

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Certificate III in Patisserie or equivalent
  • A current Food Safety Certificate
  • 2-5 years of experience as a Pastry Chef or Baker in a high-volume, fast-paced commercial environment
  • Experience with bulk food suppliers including planning needs, ordering, inventory management and production
  • Ability to manage a team of national and local employees including supervision and training
  • Well-developed communications, presentation, and interpersonal skills
