Electrician | St Barbara

St Barbara is seeking a skilled Electrician to join its Fixed Plant Maintenance team at Simberi Operation, Papua New Guinea. The Electrician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting all electrical and instrumentation equipment across the plant site. The role requires adherence to high safety standards and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the electrical systems are reliable and safe.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain availability and reliability of electrical equipment, generators, power distribution systems, switch rooms, and motor control centres on mine sites.
• Communicate effectively within the team and with other departments.
• Maintain safe work standards in line with Simberi HSE safety standards and Mine Safety Regulations.
• Ensure personal and team health and safety by adhering to safe work practices and completing required safety training.
• Respond promptly to routine, breakdown, and emergency repair calls at plant sites, processing plants, and camps.
• Support training electrical trades personnel to monitor and maintain plant electrical systems.
• Ensure all electrical work complies with PNG Codes, Mine Safety Act, AS/NZS standards, and industry best practices.
• Implement and uphold Simberi HSE Safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Licensed electrician with a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a mining environment.
• Possession of NATTB trade certificate in Electrical Mechanic.
• Current NEA license is mandatory.
• HV switching certification is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of safety procedures, legal regulations, and guidelines related to electrical work.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
• Capable of training maintenance personnel on electrical trade aspects.
• Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills.
• Flexible, adaptable, and able to work well within a team.
• Clear spoken and written English communication skills.
