St Barbara is recruiting a passionate and skilled HFO Electrician to join their team at the Simberi Operation in Papua New Guinea. This permanent full-time role involves working a 15/13 roster from locations such as Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo, Wewak or Tabar group of Islands.
The HFO Electrician will report to the HFO Supervisor and will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical equipment associated with the HFO Power Plant to ensure continuous and efficient production of electrical power to the mine and process plant.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following key duties and contribute effectively to the overall objectives of the role and organisation.
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair damaged units.
- Interpret relevant parts manuals and operating procedures and follow safe work procedures.
- Maintain well-functioning electrical connections to minimize accidents.
- Comply with company policies, particularly safe work procedures.
- Manage effective use of available resources to support the Power Plant team.
- Participate in training provided by the business.
- Report any undesired events, unsafe practices, or near misses to your supervisor immediately.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following education, experience, technical competencies, and professional attributes required to successfully perform this role.
- Behavior consistent with St Barbara’s Values.
- NATTB trade certificate in Electrical Mechanic or equivalent.
- NEA Electrician’s License.
- At least 3-5 years’ field experience.
- Strong problem-solving skills and competence in electrical fault finding.
- Good operational collaboration with mechanical and other departments.
- Clear spoken and written English.
