Marie Stopes Papua New Guinea (MSPNG) is looking for a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to provide high-quality laboratory services at their health centre. The role demands professionalism, clear communication, respect, and pro-activeness to serve clients effectively. This position involves performing a wide range of routine and specialized tests while maintaining strict adherence to laboratory standards.
Key responsibilities include conducting tests such as malaria microscopy, blood grouping, HIV rapid tests, and more. The role also includes managing supplies, supporting budget targets, ensuring infection prevention, and maintaining client confidentiality. The scientist must comply with national and international health standards and MSPNG policies.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following key duties and contribute effectively to the overall objectives of the role and organisation.
- Provide accurate and timely laboratory services to clients with sensitivity and respect.
- Perform routine and specialised tests including malaria microscopy, urinalysis, stool and HVS microscopy, blood grouping, Widal, VDRL/RPR, Hb, Gram stain, HCG, blood sugar, semen analysis, HIV rapid tests, and others as required.
- Ensure compliance with NDoH, WHO, and MSI laboratory standards and SOPs.
- Maintain infection prevention, cleanliness, waste management, and reagent cold chain.
- Ensure proper record keeping, reporting, and client confidentiality.
- Manage laboratory supplies, stock cards, and participate in monthly stock takes.
- Support budget control, sustainability targets, and community outreach activities.
- Comply with MSPNG policies, professional ethics, and corporate standards.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following education, experience, technical competencies, and professional attributes required to successfully perform this role.
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Techniques from a recognised institution.
- Full registration with the PNG Medical Board.
- Competent in laboratory procedures, equipment calibration, and quality control.
- Ability to work in a results-driven environment with strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Self-motivated, accountable, innovative, and adaptable.
- Strong commitment to continuous learning, teamwork, and quality service delivery.
