St Barbara Limited seeks a skilled Head Chef to lead kitchen operations at its mining camp in Papua New Guinea. The role requires culinary expertise, team leadership, and adherence to strict food safety standards.

The Head Chef at St Barbara Limited will lead and manage all daily kitchen activities at the Simberi mining camp. The position involves ensuring that all meals served are of high quality, nutritious, and prepared according to strict food safety, hygiene, and company standards. This role is based in Papua New Guinea with a 15/13 roster arrangement, working from locations including Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby and other key areas.

As the kitchen leader, you will supervise a diverse team, coordinate with bulk food suppliers, and maintain inventory planning and management to meet operational needs effectively.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following key duties and contribute effectively to the overall objectives of the role and organisation.

  • Lead and oversee daily kitchen operations at the mining camp
  • Ensure high-quality, nutritious, and varied meals are served to all employees and site personnel
  • Maintain compliance with all food safety, hygiene, health, and company standards
  • Manage and train a team of national and local employees
  • Plan and order food supplies efficiently and manage inventory

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following education, experience, technical competencies, and professional attributes required to successfully perform this role.

  • Qualified Chef or catering/hospitality qualification such as Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery, Certificate 3 in Hospitality, and Food Safety Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 years of successful relevant work experience
  • Experience working with bulk food suppliers, including planning, ordering, inventory management, and production
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage and lead a team with a team-oriented approach
