Hastings Deering (PNG) Limited, one of the world’s largest Caterpillar dealer networks, offers a full-time role for a Field Service Fitter based in Lihir, Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will support Caterpillar machinery through maintenance, repair, and reconditioning. Responsibilities include ensuring safety, collaborating with colleagues, meeting customer service standards, performing quality workmanship, and testing machinery performance. This role demands strong technical skills with Caterpillar 6060FS & 6020B equipment, competency in CAT SIS and ET software, and sound knowledge of electrical control systems and heavy equipment maintenance. Prior qualifications as a Diesel Fitter and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience are required. Excellent communication and a commitment to workplace safety are essential.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following key duties and contribute effectively to the overall objectives of the role and organisation.

  • Carry out service maintenance, repair, and reconditioning tasks on earthmoving machinery.
  • Achieve safety goals by committing to no harm and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with peers and supervisors to meet goals.
  • Understand and meet customer expectations and service standards promptly.
  • Perform assigned maintenance and repair jobs as directed by supervisors.
  • Ensure all work is free from faults and achieves high-quality results.
  • Test machinery after service completion and place visible completion tags.
  • Align work activities with the company’s business direction and team goals.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should demonstrate the following education, experience, technical competencies, and professional attributes required to successfully perform this role.

  • Possess a Diesel Fitter trade qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar field service fitter role or equivalent.
  • Technical knowledge of Caterpillar 6060FS & 6020B equipment and operating systems.
  • Competent in using CAT SIS and ET diagnostic tools.
  • Skills to diagnose and repair electrical control systems effectively.
  • Experienced in repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining large earthmoving equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and a sound understanding of safe work practices.
