NITTEC PNG Introduces One-Day Work Experience for Job Applicants Enhancing Recruitment Transparency
NITTEC (PNG) LIMITED has introduced an innovative one-day work experience for shortlisted job applicants, transforming traditional recruitment practices in Papua New Guinea. This new approach fosters greater transparency, employee development, and practical evaluation ahead of hiring decisions.
A Groundbreaking Recruitment Strategy in Papua New Guinea
In an unprecedented move within PNG’s recruitment landscape, NITTEC (PNG) LIMITED’s Managing Director, Cornelius Yara, announced on LinkedIn that shortlisted candidates will spend a full workday with the company team before final employment decisions are made. This initiative, commencing Thursday, 20 November 2025, signals a shift from conventional hiring methods towards a more experiential and transparent recruitment process.
Replacing Conventional Recruitment with Practical Experience
Traditionally, hiring processes in Papua New Guinea rely on job advertisements, CV reviews, interviews, and reference checks. NITTEC’s new approach diverges from this model by providing candidates direct exposure to actual workplace activities. Applicants have the opportunity to engage in daily operational tasks and interact with team members, offering a realistic preview of their potential roles.
This method is particularly significant for industries such as engineering, construction, telecommunications, and energy, where hands-on experience presents a clearer understanding of job demands than interviews alone.
The Personal Development Plan Framework
At the conclusion of the work placement day, applicants complete a personal development plan detailing their objectives for the next 1, 3, 6, and 12 months. This strategic framework achieves two main purposes:
- Encouraging self-reflection: Candidates assess their strengths, weaknesses, and career goals, fostering meaningful self-awareness beneficial to professionals at all stages.
- Identifying long-term contributors: The development plan offers insight into applicants’ motivation, ambition, and commitment—traits often not fully evident during interviews.
Cornelius Yara emphasized that this approach aims to inspire personal growth among employees, reinforce team cohesion, and ultimately enhance service delivery to clients.
